Spencer Tracy won the Oscar for Best Actor and gave the statuette to Boys Town’s Father Flanagan. Tracy, who died in 1967, returned to Boys Town at least twice after filming the movie and wrote at least one letter to donors to help raise money for the home. The movie launched the acting career of Omahan Chris Klein. The film was shot almost entirely in and around Omaha and Papillion using high school students as extras. The DVD version, however, includes deleted scenes shot in the Old Market and at Eppley Airfield. The black-and-white movie was filmed largely in northeast Nebraska. And you want to honor that. And it's a tradition that needs to be upheld." - Nicole Kidman, 2003 Oscars Ukrainian crisis. Terrorist attack in China. Massacre in Nigeria. Venezuelan protests. The Middle East keeps on keepin' on. Meanwhile, a bunch of famous people walk a red carpet in Hollywood in clothes that cost $75,000 , give or take. This morning I watched "Museum Hours" for the third time, a film that likely should have been in my 2013 Top 10, but every list is arbitrary anyway and I didn't academy awards stream feel a single viewing of Jem Cohen's film was enough time to fully digest such a beautifully contemplative film. And it made me think about tonight. It made me think about tonight because it's a film very much about how we selectively choose to see the world. I see the world for what it is. I do. The woman is simply a style icon, and she proved it again last night when she emanated Old Hollywood glamour in a white Atelier Versace gown. Hudson loves a great plunging neckline, which this gown of course incorporates, and the fit is absolutely impeccable. I love how, at the base of that plunging neckline, there’s a twisted detail, the result sarah jessica parker dress of all the pleated fabric coming together in that one central location. Donatella is, of course, a master at accentuating the female silhouette and this dress does so gloriously, with the thinly pleated, draped pieces along the hips placed in an angular fashion so as to create a slimming effect. The Cinderella blue color of her dress last night seemed particularly fitting for a night when she did, indeed, get to enjoy her princess moment. This particular gown was much less structured than some of the other dresses we’ve seen her wear (like the now iconic Ralph Lauren cape dress she wore to the Golden Globes or the turquoise Gucci dress she wore to the SAG Awards), but that’s part of it’s charm: it seems to float as she walks and you get the sense that she’s going to start twirling at any moment. Starting at 8:30 p.m. ET and pushing on dangerously close to midnight -- or later! -- the show does seem stretch a little longer every year. The most recent Oscars clocked in at three hours and sixteen minutes. (Sorry, local news.)
